3 minute wonder

What is a 3 Minute Wonder?
It is a 3 minute slot in Channel 4's programming which is dedicated to giving an opportunity to talented new filmmakers who have not had anything shown on television before to do so.

What is the aim / purpose of a 3 Minute Wonder?
"Budding new directors, who haven't yet had the opportunity to make a film for broadcast, are
given the chance to make four films destined for television" - From the Channel 4 website.

What sort of topic would you expect to see on a 3 Minute Wonder?
Anything from the mundane to more philosophical matters, they are an expression of new filmmakers' artistry. Could be personal or more worldly.

My three favourite 3 Minute Wonders

I like these two on the art because it is just a debate on how each of the people feel about the piece. I think that it is a very interesting watch, though I do like debate shows in gerenal. It is nice seeing different kinds of people all giving shared and opposing opinions. I would say that these follow the documentary format of two different types, a mixture between interactive and reflexive.

I like this one as well but for different reasons, I think that this (and all of the rest of the This is Our Youth series) is very funny. I think that this series is all mockumentary rather than factual. Though saying that the way that they have been made is very believable. In ways these are quite surreal, like in the video where there is a craze about hip-hop fans walking backwards because of a trend in the music scene. That video is the most staged, but also one of the funniest. I don't think just because they are staged that it takes away any quality from the videos, they are very well done. I would say that the way these are done is a mixture of observational and in a sense performative.

(I do not know exactly whether the This is Our Youth 3 Minute Wonders are staged or not)
