Research for my Documentary
The Beach in British popular culture
http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/british/victorians/seaside_01.shtml
History related to workers rights to have holidays (bank holiday act??)
http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/england/life/employment/holidays_and_holiday_pay.htm
Classic images of the british seaside resort and beach holiday
the decline of the seaside resort due to package tours abroad
out of season though...who goes to the beach?
dog walkers ......
I have found some details on what the Lowestoft beach has to offer!
I personally have very easy access to the Lowestoft beach as I live just across from it, so it will be easy to go out and get footage for my documentary.
hopefully the 'feel' of the documentary will be like
MARTIN PARR'S BEACH PHOTOGRAPHY
I like the mood of his photography very much I think that they are both glamourless and charming at the same time.
I can only hope to get shots like this for my documentary, but I think that the visual style will be much more like a Louis Theroux investigative documentary, while at times it will be observing I also want myself to ask questions that are important to beach-goers, like the money spent on the beach, whether the council are focusing enough on it or not etc.
I will be using a 'vox pop' style of interviewing, hopefully getting interviews from people who I have not previously spoken to or arraged anything with before hand, I want their answers to be fresh and a bit scared.
I have searched up laws on filming in public places in the UK and have come across an expert's answer... http://philipbloom.net/2009/04/14/filming-in-public-places/
I don't think that my documentary will infringe with any of Ofcom's rules, I think that the documentary itself will be quite harmless really.
I think that this documentary will be mainly about qualitative data that I will obtain through primary research.
I made a questionaire and got some answers to questions about the beach and about documentaries -

here are the answers

Tom,
ReplyDeleteYou have made a good start; you have used a few sources and you have attempted primary and secondary research. This post (and you questionnaire responses one) could be presented in a much clearer and more understandable way.
Merit achieved.
